The location was excellent and the quirky vibe was brilliant; the bed was extremely comfortable, the facilities were spotless, and the decor looked great. I appreciated having a fridge and felt very secure. The coffee machine was dirty and only produced a dribble, and we had to bring our own milk for coffee and tea. The TV riser didn’t work, likely because the remote needed new batteries, but that didn’t bother us since we didn’t need the TV. No bathrobes were provided as the site claimed, though that wasn’t an issue because we brought our own; the shower setup made splashing water a concern. Entry codes were a bit confusing at first but we sorted them out. The room name didn’t match the booking instructions, which was initially confusing. The lights on the stairs had a long sensor delay, making it hard to rush up and down from the top floor. There were only a few tiny soaps, so toiletries were lacking, and the kitchen lacked bowls, which should be listed.

“Beautiful room but it's not a bed and breakfast”

The room was beautifully decorated and the dining area had a well-equipped kitchenette. Walking to the city center, restaurants, cafés, museums and the Rouen cathedral was quick. However, the place is advertised as a bed and breakfast yet there was no staff on site and no breakfast offered. Only enough supplies were left for two cups of coffee in the room, and nobody refilled them during our four‑day stay. The stairwell was narrow, dark and claustrophobic; although the lighting was motion‑activated, I often had to step several times in the dark before it turned on.

“Was nützt ein schönes Zimmer, wenn das Schließsystem nicht funktioniert?”

The keypad code didn’t work, and it took me 70 minutes, four phone calls (with barely any English), and five attempts to climb three floors—sometimes in pitch darkness—to finally open the door. At night the room door wouldn’t open until I tried again and again. No one was on site to help.

“Terrible! Don’t stay here. I was expecting some French character and tradition but it’s awful with no breakfast options.”

The location was great and the bed sheets were clean. The accommodation was really poor: the room was dusty, dirty, and had a musty smell. Getting in was hard because the main door was difficult to open and the door handle was broken, making the room even harder to access. The toilet door couldn’t be closed properly, so I couldn’t sit on the toilet without my knees hitting it. The towels were clean but smelled. The second bed was a single bed up a small ladder that is very hard to climb unless you’re a child. The decor was gloomy, and I had to sleep with the windows open to escape the dust and odor.

The room was very charming, but there were no toiletries (soap, shampoo, body wash…) and you could leave the fridge on without even a bottle of water.
