“Not feel like a 4-star hotel”

I stayed only one night for a concert, booking because a friend had stayed there and recommended it; it’s close to the metro and there are many restaurants nearby. The room was fine for a single night but really plain. It’s a 4‑star hotel, yet the room facilities don’t feel 4‑star at all: the hairdryer sucks hair into the back vent, the toilet paper holder is loose so the paper keeps falling off, the sanitary disposal bags next to the toilet are empty, the fridge didn’t have the free bottled water promised in the email and we had to ask the front desk for it, there’s no ceiling light, and the only bright floor lamp has its switch on the floor in a very narrow gap next to a small table – it’s extremely inconvenient to reach it every time to turn it on or off.

The room was nice and big. A nice park was near the hotel and it was close to the train station. The staff were very professional, and we had a lovely meal at the hotel – the service was very good and the food was delicious.

“Les 4 étoiles sont probablement restées à l’extérieur”

The hotel sits right by the metro entrance, close to the Grand Hall of La Villette and the Zenith. We clearly have a different idea of what a 4‑star hotel should be. When we arrived, the first surprise was a room supposedly meant to comfortably house four people with two 140 cm beds – that’s not what I expected from a 4‑star. The guided tour of the facilities revealed wardrobe doors that had completely slipped off their tracks, a bedroom door that required a lot of force to close, and carpet that seemed to have seen several generations of guests. The real masterpiece, however, was the broken bedside lamps, removed and wrapped in old tape – a little artisanal touch that immediately gives a sense of a very particular standing… let’s say, very distinctive. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Many details clearly convey that the upkeep and renovation of the room are not exactly top priorities. The biggest shock is the gap between the promise of a 4‑star and the reality we encountered. You don’t expect absolute luxury, but at this price and ranking you can reasonably expect a room in good condition, functional equipment, and a door that closes normally without having to hit the gym. In short, an interesting experience: you book a 4‑star and discover the “4‑star vintage” concept. Too bad the old‑world charm isn’t really the advertised positioning.

“Do not recommend”

The location was average but near the metro. The bathroom wasn’t properly cleaned, the bedroom was hot and stuffy with no air conditioning, making it almost impossible to sleep. When we called reception, they were very rude, said the rooms had no air conditioning, and didn’t address the issue.
