“Cigarette smoke in the room, dirty toilets, loud breakfast”
The building sits near a tram line from the main train station and allows late check‑in. After I checked in and went up to my floor, the corridor was filled with a strong cigarette smell, clearly from a guest who had smoked. The scent leaked through a vent in the door next to my upper bunk. The bunk itself was unsafe to climb because the rail was hard to grip for people with short arms. The shared toilets were in terrible condition: one seat had urine on it, the other had cigarette butts in the bowl. I couldn’t tell if the bathrooms were mixed or separated by gender, and the shared shower was see‑through with a curtain that had clearly seen better days. Breakfast took place in a large dining hall that echoed loudly; about 80 people were talking and walking around, making it feel more like a festival than a quiet morning. When I mentioned the smoke to reception, they offered me a different dorm, but it was mixed, not a female dorm. When I asked for a refund because I wanted to leave early due to the smoke, the receptionist refused, even though they could have reclaimed the money from whoever caused the smoke. The hostel has a bad rating, and I now understand why. I’ve stayed in many hostels, but this was the worst. It’s also annoying that they only accept cash and even have their own ATM in the building.
