Nothing good. The booking was cancelled without formal notification. I suspiciously received an email thanking/hoping we enjoyed our stay on the day we were to arrive. I immediately contacted the property asking for clarification. The response received just said follow the initial instructions on how to get the keys. We arrived at night and told the apartment was not available. We were told different stories about what the problem was with the booked apartment. The alternative provided at the location we were to collect the keys, “Town Nest,” was nowhere near what we booked. Staff tried to offer yet another alternative but the location was not great. We were forced to find our own place late at night. We all the stress and hassle such a situation can cause in a country you have never visited before. I have a suspicion that the apartment was offered to another customer who booked direct who either offered more money/number of days. The least the owner could have done is let us know much sooner so that we could have made arrangements prior. The rating is based on the experience as we didn’t even get to the apartment!

I woke up to find no water in the apartment, and the customer service was disappointing.

The value for money was great, and the communication with the hosts was friendly. Walking to the city center of Stone Town takes only a few minutes. The room was large and spotless. However, we had no water for two of the four mornings, and on one morning there was also no electricity. When water did come, the shower pressure was so low that washing my long hair took forever. Considering the price, this is tolerable.
