The place was clean, and both check‑in and check‑out were hassle‑free. Witte de Withstraat has a lovely restaurant scene worth exploring, and the hostel itself was quiet. There’s an access tag for entry, so no codes or keys to worry about. The only downside was a smoke detector in the room that kept flashing a green light every few seconds, which was annoying in the otherwise dim setting, and the room light wasn’t very bright.

“Night male staff was not good”

The spot is close to the central station, which is handy. When I got there at night, I was put on the first floor and the window next to my bed was open, so light and outside noise seeped in. I asked a male staff member to move me to another bed, but he refused and lied, saying it was reserved for a group arriving later that night. In truth, that bed stayed empty all night and even the next day, yet he still wouldn’t swap me. It was utterly unreasonable, especially since there were several other vacant beds in the room.

“Het zou geweldig zijn om bij je hostel thee, koffie of iets lekkers voor het ontbijt te kunnen halen”

I was told beforehand that it would be noisy. Honestly, I didn’t sleep much, but I did have a fantastic window and a beautiful location; the staff were incredibly kind and everyone was very welcoming. It felt like a visit to family – warm and hospitable – and I’ll definitely return. It would be great if the website allowed direct payment with a Dutch debit card, and if there were options to brew tea or coffee in the morning or prepare something to eat.
