The Nobel Hotel Ameland is centrally located in Ballum on Ameland, offering 19 rooms and a church suite transformed into 2 apartments. Handmade beds, minibar, smart TV, and free WiFi are standard amenities. A 20-minute walk leads to the beach. The hotel features an à la carte restaurant, smoking-free terrace, and free on-site parking, with various activities like biking, horse riding, and seal watching nearby.

The location in Ballum village is lovely, and the terrace feels instantly inviting. The hotel itself is tidy and clean. My room was spacious and well equipped, and the bed was large. When we asked for two single blankets after check‑in because the single one didn’t suit us, the staff obliged. The staff were friendly and helpful, and communication in German or English always worked. Ballum’s “first house on the square” feels like a first‑class spot. On the downside, the bed was a bit too soft, and the two thick pillows each person received ended up in the wardrobe – a luxury faux pas. At night the hallway was noisy; the doors and walls seem thin. A small issue that crops up in many hotels: the bathroom lacks towel hooks, so you have to walk with dripping fingers to the radiator or leave towels “somewhere” on the sink. It’s probably a design choice. The breakfast menu is clear and somewhat “noble,” but portions are small for the price, and the coffee cup is even smaller. Since there’s no self‑serve buffet, you must ask for each drink or slice of bread, and staples like fruit, vegetables, or yogurt are missing. With a larger group, the morning took longer, so we paid and left without ordering anything else. You can’t book a room with breakfast included – it’s à la carte only.

The room was very tidy, large, and had excellent beds. Usually in a room with a bath you have to shower in the tub, but here there’s a separate shower next to the bath – very convenient. The downside: no breakfast buffet. The breakfast itself was good but pricey, and a buffet would have been a nice hotel perk.

A very pretty hotel in a charming village. Quiet, good walks. The bar and restaurant are right in the hotel with stylish décor. Nobels (Gin) can be bought right next door.
