“Gute Unterkunft mit ein paar Schatten”
We parked in the courtyard upon arrival, there were several spots, and the instructions for the key box at the rear entrance were sufficient and everything worked fine. We then passed through the bakery into the interior area. On the ground floor everything was beautifully arranged, stairs led to the first and second floors where the rooms were. The room itself had the essentials, was very clean, and stepping out of the front door put you right on the market square, right in the middle of town. Two recommendations among many others: the UNION Filmtheater with its small cinema halls, dinner at the Ratskeller in Schneeberg, and after a short hike (watch out for the uphill return) you reach the Therme in Schlema. Unfortunately the cleaning lady apparently forgot to refill the shower gel; both the shower and the sink containers were empty from the start, which shouldn’t happen at the room price. We were also really disappointed with the Saturday morning breakfast (we were there for the weekend). Three types of sausage and two types of cheese were laid out in a bland way, the vegetables that were supposed to be there were all gone by nine o’clock even though breakfast was supposed to run until ten, and they were never restocked. Only dirty coffee cups (many of them) were available, and asking about it didn’t change anything. Luckily, a few clean cups were eventually found in a side room. The fruit (e.g., peaches) was completely dried out and wrinkled. The whole experience was far from recommended. Thankfully there was still a Sunday morning breakfast, which was good. Suddenly everything changed—beautifully arranged, more varieties of sausage and cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit, vegetables, and plenty of clean cups. A friendly staff member was also there. It was a good start for an otherwise gloomy rainy day.
