A quirky little B&B with lovely hosts; parking could be hit‑and‑miss when the property was full.

This place is simply the best: the room was fantastic, the staff were friendly, breakfast was excellent, parking was free, and the lake is only a 19‑minute walk away. It ranks among the top hotels we stayed at on our UK trip, highly recommended and very reasonably priced.

The room was clean with a comfortable bed, and there were plenty of shops, taxis and local buses nearby. However, the two small car parks—one up a steep slope—were tricky to maneuver. The B&B sits about 15 minutes uphill from town, making the walk back tiring, and another 15 minutes uphill to the train and bus stations. The cooked breakfast was dry and lacked beans or tinned tomatoes, a problem noted in other reviews. The bread muffin was tough to cut and left on the plate; the server said she would tell the chef. The kettle in the room was too large to fit under the rigid tap. The furniture style and overall quirkiness were not to our taste, and dining tables were too small to hold all crockery; with eight bedrooms but only six tables, two guests had to wait. The room felt cold in the evenings and the radiator wouldn’t work.
