“Relaxing ryokan experience with private onsen”

I was thrilled by the private onsen that flowed freely in my room, and the option to book a private sauna and onsen at the accommodation was a bonus. The room itself was spacious, and I appreciated the traditional ryokan clothing. The Japanese breakfast was a delight, and the staff happily catered to my vegetarian preferences. Everyone was friendly, and I’d definitely return. I also enjoyed spotting Japanese winter monkeys just outside the property. The only drawback was the parking: it’s on steep hills, slippery when wet, but there’s plenty of space.

The rooms are very beautiful, large, and roomy. Every room has a hot bath. The snack room is wonderful, with plenty of drinks and food. Unfortunately, no staff speak a language other than Japanese, so communication is a struggle.

The hot spring turned out to be just water, and the shower never produced any steam; poor drainage left the washing area looking like a pool. Information about the stay was given only in the lobby, and we never got a room tour like you’d expect at a ryokan. When we reported the hot‑spring issue, the only staff member at the front desk was a Chinese employee, whose response felt insufficient and we never managed to speak with a supervisor. After 7 pm there were no regular staff on duty, and we were told we’d have to handle any emergency on our own via iPad, which was shocking. At night we were told the front door would stay open for free access, but with no staff at the desk it left us uneasy about security.
