“Teuer, aber sehr schön”
The setting was great, with a view of the river and even elephants and hippos; the food was very good and the staff extremely friendly.

The staff were truly outstanding and the setting right by the river, with elephant and hippo tours, felt incredibly intimate, complemented by the overall décor and a daily‑changing food menu. The only downside was that the pools weren’t heated, making it impossible to swim because the water was so cold.

The spot’s location is great, but the chalet room had a bad odor that made the stay less enjoyable.

Leopards Sands Hotel in Kruger markets itself as a five‑star luxury escape, yet the reality is far below that claim. From the moment we arrived, it was obvious that the hotel relies on image instead of substance. For a place that calls itself five‑star, the lack of a gym is baffling—something that should be a basic expectation, not an optional luxury. That was just the start of the letdowns. The food was consistently underwhelming, poorly cooked and poorly presented, feeling like an afterthought rather than a highlight. Service was equally troubling; the waitstaff seemed disengaged and visibly unhappy, leading to slow, inattentive, and frankly subpar service. Once, while guests were seated in the restaurant lounge, a waiter was ironing linen right by the bar counter—a bizarre and unprofessional sight that ruined the atmosphere. On a positive note, Nadine stood out as a rare bright spot; she was attentive, empathetic, and truly listened to our concerns. Management should take her feedback seriously, as she appears to be one of the few who knows what hospitality should look like. The location is another major drawback. Being next to a road means constant traffic noise, far from the tranquil bush experience one expects from a Kruger getaway. There was also a lack of transparency regarding the advertised “full board” experience; only upon arrival did we learn that alcohol was not included—a detail that should have been disclosed upfront, not quietly revealed after check‑in. Connectivity was another frustration; both the internet and mobile network were unreliable, forcing us to rely on our own mobile data just to stay connected—unacceptable at this price point. In short, Leopards Sands is not worth the premium it charges. The experience feels disjointed, poorly managed, and far from luxurious.

The hotel’s spot on the Sabie River is fantastic, the staff were amazing, the food was incredible, and the wildlife around is some of the best you can see. Nothing to complain about.
