Set in a 16th‑century aristocratic manor, Casa do Colégio Velho overlooks landscaped gardens and Vila Viçosa’s historic centre. Air‑conditioned rooms feature wrought‑iron beds, flat‑screen TVs and private marble bathrooms. Guests enjoy an outdoor pool, a garden with 17th‑century tiled benches, a piano‑filled garden house, and a breakfast of regional produce. The Ducal Palace lies 250 m away, the castle 650 m.

The historic building and décor, room size, warm welcome, easy parking, and great location were all positive; no negatives.

Central location, staff were friendly, the place was quiet and comfortable. The room was huge and had everything you could need. The only downside was a bit of dust in the kitchen cabinets.

The décor and old‑style charm, beautiful well‑kept furnishings, spacious, very clean rooms with plenty of spots to read or chat, a simple but tasty breakfast, and good problem resolution stood out. We had an issue with the toilet cistern, and although we booked a suite for three, they handled it well by giving us two rooms. I would note the lack of an elevator, though the stairs are comfortable. They offer parking, actually two street spots for hotel guests; we were lucky, but they might not always be free. Still, you can usually find space on the street.
