“A beautiful, peaceful riad full of character in the heart of Essaouira.”

We absolutely loved our stay at Villa De L’O. The location is fantastic, right by the medina and only a few steps from the beach, but once inside the riad it feels peaceful and completely removed from the bustle outside. The building itself is beautiful, full of character and traditional Moroccan details, and the rooftop terrace with its views over Essaouira was one of our favorite places to relax. Breakfast was lovely, but what really made the stay special was the staff - genuinely warm, welcoming and helpful throughout our visit. Honestly, there was very little to complain about. We had a wonderful stay and any small imperfections were easily outweighed by the atmosphere, location and hospitality

“This place has definitely seen better days.”

The location just inside the Medina was good, not far to carry bags. The reception staff and breakfast staff were friendly and helpful – what I would expect. Bed was very comfortable, but… Had to pay for the advertised airport shuttle! Expected welcome mint tea (happened elsewhere) but no. We chose a room that opened onto the central corridor, which was awful, no natural light or view, half the room at the top of very dangerous stairs / so unusable!! We made it known we weren’t happy with the room / even offered to pay for an upgrade but nothing happened – we were the ONLY GUESTS THERE!! Breakfast was ok but on a very shabby rooftop terrace – great views of the beach but furniture was old and uninviting. One broken sun bed / no cushions so not able to spend any time up there. Public spaces downstairs – dark and dingy, didn’t use them at all!! Very very disappointed – will definitely return to Essaouira but will not return to this hotel. They had the option to turn our stay around – no other guests – we could have been given a better room but no. Photographs are very misleading. Beware.

“The friendly and engaged staff was amazing”

The staff were amazing, and the hotel’s small, personal vibe and prime spot between the beach and the medina added to the experience. The room itself was spacious and nice, but it felt like a cave because the windows only faced a dark indoor hallway, making it extremely dark. The building is beautiful, yet the common areas such as the lounge and rooftop feel a bit dusty and dull, as if they haven’t been properly maintained—an unfortunate loss for a structure with so much potential.
