Located just off I-84 and 1 block from the Columbia River Gorge, The Dalles Inn features 32-inch flat-screen TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, coffee machines, and phones in each room. A daily continental breakfast, free WiFi, on-site fitness centre, free newspapers, and business center are also provided. The inn is within walking distance to the Original Courthouse Museum and 7 miles from the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center.

Friendly staff at the front desk and a comfy mattress were highlights, but the lack of clear signage made finding the hotel tough; the room felt cramped, only slightly clean, the A/C filter didn’t fit and the unit was rattling; the shower needed work and was barely functional, the bedspread and blankets were stained, and crumbs were on the sheets; at the coffee shop, two people waited over half an hour for a cup of coffee and a scone.

The bed was very comfortable, yet I couldn’t figure out that check‑in was at the hotel next door; I might have missed the instructions, but no signage around The Dalles Inn pointed that out.

The room layout was nice and the front desk was friendly and professional, but the floor could have been cleaner and mopped.
