“Overpriced and overhyped. Was not great value”
The place and the staff were nice. It was way overpriced.

The location on the main street was great, the room was okay, and the dinner and breakfast were western style and nice. There was no door between the room and the bathroom.

The room was nice and the staff tried to help. The location is great. Throughout the day and night, the room was filled with cooking smells coming from the kitchen. The odors were so strong that it was almost impossible to sleep, and all my clothes ended up smelling of cooking. The food was tasty, but the meal times were completely unsuitable for guests who were hiking and relying on train schedules. The staff were extremely inflexible about this. Eventually, they agreed to move breakfast from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., but only after considerable insistence. Although the food itself was generally very good, I was disappointed by the attempt to imitate Western cuisine. I had traveled all the way to a traditional village in Japan, and I certainly hadn't come that far to eat food I could easily have at home. The portions were also extremely small, especially considering that we had spent the entire day hiking. The meal consisted of just three tiny courses and a dessert. To make matters worse, serving these few small dishes took almost two hours. This was neither practical nor considerate of the guests' needs. This was not a Michelin-starred fine dining experience, and I really cannot understand why such a modest meal needed to take so long. Overall, while the food was tasty, the dining experience was poorly suited to travelers exploring the region on foot and relying on public transportation.

The suite was spacious and nicely decorated, and the hosts were super friendly, helping us as much as possible to navigate. The meal and breakfast were also very good, and the village itself is charming.

The check‑in was smooth, everything else was fine. Nothing truly great to say about our stay; service was okay, the food was okay, and the room was okay. But for the price, we expected a lot more. This was an average stay, priced as a great stay. I suppose much of the disappointment comes mainly from this mismatch. Having paid $450/night, I would price this stay at $120‑$200. As a boutique hotel owner myself, I would recommend a light renovation in the off season and a repositioning of commercial strategy, as the growing number of unsatisfied guests’ reviews indicate a clear trend which, if left to accumulate, may become an issue for this property’s listings.
