“Playa de ensueño”
Some of the most paradisiacal Pacific beaches are definitely in Guachalito—beautiful and well‑maintained with lovely gardens and trails. Don Pedro’s attention to detail and his wife and daughter’s exquisite food were the highlights of our stay. I recommend the egg arepa and the best soup in the world that I’ve ever had. The coconuts called “pipas” are delicious, fresh, and inexpensive, and you can also drink them with liquor as “coco locos.” The Cascada del Amor is about a 30‑minute walk away, and the stream is nearby. Even though it’s low season and it’s hard to bring food because there’s no road, this pleasant family does the best they can with what they have. For now, electricity is available from 6 to 11 pm, but soon there will be clean power all day thanks to the government’s change, which installed solar panels and lithium batteries for that purpose. I might suggest adding canopies over the beds to keep mosquitoes away at night, but it’s something that can be fixed easily.
