What could be better? The people running the hotel, the fantastic food for both breakfast and dinner, and the private onsens—all score an 11 on a 10‑point scale.

The mattress was thin, and the single futon left my joints sore when I woke up. The bath was lukewarm, the room toilet was cramped, and overall it was terrible.
