“Overnight stay in a charming old fashioned hotel with friendly staff.”
The old building was charming. I would have liked a kettle.
“Great place to stay”
The king‑size bed was comfortable and the shower was good. Dinner and breakfast were also good. Nothing else.
“Extremely disappointing experience – not suitable for dogs”
We booked this as a last‑minute stay after our dog sitter let us down because we had a family funeral nearby. We called ahead to confirm the hotel was pet‑friendly and that we could bring two dogs, and were reassured it was fine. On arrival we were shown to a tiny room with no air conditioning; the fan showed 32°C, which was scary with two dogs, so we brought our own fan. We left for Asda, and after only five minutes we received a call that our door was wide open and our dogs had escaped, running down the road outside the hotel/pub. We had locked the door behind us, so we were very upset. Staff caught one dog, and after calling the other several times she returned. We were lucky because a busy A‑road and a river lie outside the property. The staff’s response was disappointing: they spoke to us in a confrontational tone, telling us we should never have left our dogs alone, that we should have locked the door, and that we were irresponsible. We had specifically confirmed the pet policy and had locked the door from the outside; we didn’t know the door didn’t lock from the inside against a dog’s pull. We had to pay someone locally to stay with our dogs the next day because we could no longer leave them unattended. I do appreciate that the staff eventually helped retrieve our dogs, and for that we are truly grateful.
“Excellent short stop”
The food was very good and the staff were friendly. Room service was a bit hit‑and‑miss.
“Fantastic Stay”
The room was very comfortable, with great decor and furnishings. The pub itself was excellent, with friendly staff, and I had a fabulous meal there in the evening. The room had everything I needed, including a good selection of tea and coffee (with a cafetière!) and Oat Milk. The furnishings, comfort, and finishing touches felt like those of a much higher‑end hotel. I would definitely stay again.
