The hotel is a stunning 18th‑century building in a great spot in Angoulême, a lovely city in itself. The only oddity was the décor, with startling colours – the corridors were all painted in an almost frightening purple, which felt very much like a typical French hotel.

The location is fine, there’s a bike‑parking option and a kettle. The room is small with limited storage. The bathroom needs a refresh. Hygiene could be better.
