“Hotel cancelled my booking the day prior so that I needed to find a last-minute solution”
I got a confirmation email the morning before my arrival, saying the hotel was eager to host me and that a deposit needed to be paid. Since I was already in town, I went to the front desk to sort it out, only to find that the hotel would charge the credit card on file for the deposit, which made the email confusing. When I got there, no one was at reception; the floors were dusty and a cobweb hung from the ceiling above the desk. I called the hotel number several times, was repeatedly put on hold, and finally spoke to someone who told me my booking had been cancelled because the deposit hadn’t been paid. Within 3–4 hours of the confirmation email, the hotel had decided not to charge my card and had cancelled the reservation. When I asked if I could rebook, I was told they were fully booked, which seemed unlikely given the earlier confirmation. I had to find alternative accommodation and requested that no cancellation fee be applied, since the hotel never properly cancelled my stay in the system. The customer service was chaotic and not worth the trouble.
