Joyze Hotel Xiamen

We stayed on the third floor for two nights; the bed was very comfortable and we slept well, with a JBL speaker at the headboard providing great audio, and the breakfast offered many choices. After stepping out of the lift there was a strong damp, mouldy and smoky smell, room 8323 also smelled mouldy, and the housekeeping staff didn’t empty the dehumidifier’s full water tank, which seemed to happen at least twice between 8 am and 10 pm.

Upon check‑in we were told the one‑bedroom suite does not accommodate 4 people. We were offered two king‑bed rooms for the same price instead. We really liked the swimming pool and breakfast was good. The rooms were very pretty and modern. I did not like that they advertise the one‑bedroom as being suitable for 4 people when apparently that is not true. I appreciate we were given 2 rooms instead, but having to argue at check‑in while personnel speaks little English was a bad experience.

“Fijn verblijf voor 2 dagen xiamen.”

The hotel looked nice with a spacious, clean room and a great location, and the staff were very friendly, although not everyone spoke English well. The pool was overly warm and seemed designed only for lap swimming, not for fun, and when we tried to play we were warned by the lifeguard; there were just two loungers and no cushions, and the area around the pool was poorly maintained, with chairs and benches lacking cushions, which made the setting look and feel uncomfortable, and there was no service for food or drinks by the pool, giving the impression that they’re not yet accustomed to western tourists.
