Located in 13 acres of West Sussex countryside, West Dean College is 6 miles from historic Chichester and 13 minutes' drive from the South Downs National Park. The property offers traditional rooms with garden views, modern options, and cottages or the vicarage within the grounds. Breakfast is included, served in the college dining room among students. Guests enjoy free garden access, outdoor heated pool (summer), and activities like walks, croquet, and tennis.

The location was wonderful and it was nice to have time to explore the grounds freely; breakfast was excellent, and the student dining room offered very economical meals; the staff in the dining room and gardens were helpful and friendly; however, the reception staff were always glued to computers, giving an unwelcoming vibe until you interrupted them, breakfast ran from 0730 to 0900 and we would have preferred a later option, there was no lift (not a problem for us but could be for others).

We couldn’t have breakfast because they only served it once a day; there was no electricity in the room, the lights blew out, there were no lights, no staff to help, no answer to the phone at any time, or email, and the phone number didn’t connect to anything; we couldn’t find our room, couldn’t get the Wi‑Fi password, and had no electricity to charge our phone, making it very bad value for money at £150 for a single room per night; the basic room was clean, but with no lights perhaps I didn’t see it.

Beautiful stately property, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, and a great location. I was—a single woman - staying in an outbuilding outside the wall—and I did find it a little spooky
