The Waldhotel Unterbach, located near Eller Forst Forest and Unterbacher See Lake, offers free Wi-Fi and parking. Situated 20 minutes east of Düsseldorf city centre, it features comfortable rooms with TV and private bathroom. A bus stop is 100 metres away, connecting to Düsseldorf city centre and main station in 30 minutes. Motorways A3 and A46 are nearby.

The hotel sits quietly beside the forest, but it looks worn out and in need of renovation, and the area in front of the building looks quite run-down.

The hotel sent us the access code ahead of time, so we never had to ask for it. Our family room was spacious enough for three people, and guests could park for free in the lot behind the building. However, the signs from the parking area to the entrance were confusing, the property looked deserted and there was no staff on site. The bathroom fan didn’t work, so steam and heat lingered after showers and the only ventilation came from the sleeping area, whose windows lacked insect screens, letting bugs in whenever they were opened. We also only found two half‑used rolls of toilet paper, and with no one around to help it was a pretty awkward situation. Breakfast on Sunday didn’t start until 08:00.

Very close to the beach, nicely decorated. The beds were cozy, and breakfast was tasty. I didn’t like the carpet in the room and would have appreciated more vegan options for breakfast.

Location was perfect for our needs, the room at the back offered a nicer view of the greenery, and the staff were friendly. The hand towels smelled musty, some furnishings were oddly dated, and the mattress was sagging.
