I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a hotel can get so much right and yet manage to mess up the basics. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city, and the staff were friendly and helpful, even when I checked in late. But the room itself was a letdown - the furniture looked like it belonged in a thrift store, and the air was thick with the smell of stale cigarettes.
