“The maid went through my luggage and stole 540 euros that were well hidden.”
We chose a very nice spot for my birthday, recommended by Rick Steves, and spent twice what we normally pay per night in Europe, which is understandable for Lake Como. The maid rummaged through my luggage and found the container where I kept our passports and Euros. The manager said only the maid could have been in our room and confirmed that she stole the entire envelope of 540 euros. We were away for 3 hours, and when we came back the money was gone and the container lay on the dresser. We had just started our vacation and showed the manager our withdrawal paperwork. He believed us and promised reimbursement. He brought the maid to our room and she cried loudly. He said he couldn’t search her and called the police. We waited 2 hours for the police, who never arrived. He then had his partner take us to the police station, where we spent another 2 hours filing the complaint. The manager said we would be reimbursed by his insurance company in 2 weeks. We stayed another 3 days after the theft and did not discuss it with other guests. He said he would fire the maid. Now 3 weeks later I still haven’t been reimbursed. The manager is now saying we won’t be paid, after guaranteeing us in person that we would be paid. I am very angry. Losing 540 euros is a big deal to us. We are not well off people. We are retired with very limited assets.

The room was clean and the hotel has a great location. The bed was too small and the breakfast was average.

Breakfast was good, location great. The containers of body wash and shampoo were not filled.
