The location was perfect for the Great North Run. The window didn’t shut well, so it was noisy most of the night. The shower ran on and off, and the sink tap behaved the same. The bed was a metal one that felt like a pop‑up; there was no headboard, so sitting up was uncomfortable. There was one pillow each and they were flimsy.

“Adequate”

The place is well situated, but it looks like a lot of renovation is happening, so there was dust and plaster everywhere, even on the stairwell. There was banging until about 10 pm. The bathroom light triggered the extractor fan automatically, which was very loud. My towels were damp, as if they hadn’t been dried properly after washing. I also had no curtains, just nets, so light poured in right away. I stayed here about 2–3 years ago and it wasn’t this bad. Hopefully the renovations will make it better in the future.

“Not for us - very expensive for facilities”

The place is in a good spot. Lots of issues: cleanliness was poor, no double bed, lumpy pillows, holes in the wall and floor, a filthy headboard, loudness, dirty curtains, not vacuumed properly, kettle not emptied, shower froze then scolded, it’s unavoidable to get the floor wet unless you stand in the freezing shower, and it was hard to reach the staff.

“Disgusting wort ever”

I was left with nothing to like. Workmen were banging on site until late at night, the place was dirty, and the electricity was off when we arrived—dangerous with exposed wires. The whole room was filthy; I have plenty of photos to prove it.
