Sunshine Sanctuary Boutique Jungle Lodge is nestled in Montezuma's jungle heart, offering private rooms with entrances, balconies, AC, hot water, and cable TV. Guests enjoy full breakfast, a private hanging bridge, cafe, bar, fiber optic WIFI, kitchen, laundry services, and yoga shala. A 10-minute walk along a private path leads to Montezuma waterfalls, with opportunities to spot monkeys, toucans, and exotic wildlife, and 400 meters from the beach.

We stayed here for three nights in October and found it a gorgeous, quiet spot overlooking the sea, with a varied breakfast and very friendly staff; we even got breakfast early during a hike, enjoyed the pool, and could head straight to the waterfall—highly recommended. The only issue was missing towel and wet clothes drying hooks during the rainy season, and the bed made a loud creak.

The woman preparing breakfast was very friendly and helpful, the food tasted good and varied, and many locals used the accommodation, offering a nice view of the green and the sea. However, the reception was only open from 8‑14 h even though check‑in starts at 14 h, and any questions afterward had to be handled via a cumbersome WhatsApp process; everything feels rather outdated (the pool, for example, is unused). In room 13 the mattress was old and the springs were already showing through, making sleep difficult, and cleanliness was lacking (fixtures and the carafe lids were heavily limescaled). I would have appreciated a proactive service that informed us that almost all restaurants in Montezuma were closed during the low season and gave us alternative dining suggestions—otherwise we drove for an hour to find something moderately good. On all other days we headed over to Santa Teresa.

The views, room, and breakfast were great, but on the weekend there was no staff available to assist.

The hotel was beautiful, perched high, quiet, and magnificent. The staff were very attentive. Every morning the breakfast was good. The rooms offered a lovely view of the forest and the sea. You should take the bridge at least once 😊. I really liked this hotel and highly recommend it.
