“Great room but staff need training”

The large double bedroom was beautiful, spacious, clean, and the bed was very comfortable, and the restaurant food was very good. However, no staff were at the check‑in desk; we rang the front desk for 15–20 minutes with no reply, likely because a wedding was happening. At dinner it took 10 minutes for someone to come out to take drink orders and the service was slow. Toward the end of the evening we waited a long time for the bill while five staff members chatted at the bar; we eventually paid at the bar. The next morning the shower only dripped cold water, so we couldn’t shower, and when we mentioned this at check‑out the staff seemed completely unbothered. For over £200 for a single night, we expected better.

The hotel was very comfortable with great staff; when our room had an issue we were moved right away to a beautiful upgrade. We ate at the restaurant, the food was good, parking was easy, and our room was large with a freestanding tub, a comfortable bed, and very quiet. We enjoyed a fire near our table for dinner. The breakfast we paid for was decent but a bit sparse, offering only a slice of bacon and one sausage, while my husband wanted black pudding, tomato, and mushrooms—other hotels offer substitutes. The place was clean but not spotless, and some décor showed age with peeling wallpaper.

“Overall very good.”

The tea and coffee setup in the room was lacking, and there was no milk or other coffee essentials.
