“Wonderful stay complete with boat safari and local knowledge”
We enjoyed a lovely stay at Rathnapriya Oasis, with superb Sri Lankan breakfast and dinner. Our host arranged a boat safari that we really liked, and he was an interesting person who shared great information and history about Gal Oya. Overall it was a great time and we would recommend it. The village is small, but walking around everyone is very friendly.
The location is excellent for safaris. The owner is well connected; we received a WhatsApp from a boat safari operator with an offer before our stay. The pool is large and even has live cute frogs and small water insects. The garden is wonderful, beautifully planted with big trees. The beds creak but are comfortable, and the walls let in a lot of noise.
The pool was really cool and the rooms were clean and close to the NP, which was great. While heading back from the boat trip, we saw an elephant at the hotel, and the staff spent a lot of time with it. The breakfast, however, was delayed by 25 minutes because the laundry had priority over feeding guests on time – at first we thought it was a mistake, but it turned out to be intentional. For breakfast we only received a half‑size mineral water bottle per person, not a full one. The shower drain was clogged with a lot of women’s hair, clearly not cleaned. Think twice before visiting the NP; the boat tour felt unprofessional. Booking was a nightmare, one motor was completely broken, we had to switch boats, and the other required a lot of tightening until it could move a few meters again. We kept talking in USD, but at pickup we got a WhatsApp in rupies. Maybe they should offer a better time or a more professional spot instead of overloading us.
“Very pleasant stay”
The pool, the food, the room, and the service were all great.
“A wonderful stay with a very friendly couple.”
This is a lovely home run by a very friendly couple. The room was absolutely spotless, simple yet fully equipped. The air‑conditioning works fabulously, and there is a pool to cool down. We ate here and the home‑cooked meals were delicious. The owners also helped us arrange a boat safari and transport to our next destination. Highly recommend!
