“Nie jedź tam!”

The old building, recently renovated, sits right in Chiang Rai’s center. The walls are thin and the street and school outside create a constant, loud background. The breakfast was the worst in Thailand—no juices, no fruit, and when I asked for pancakes the reply was that breakfast is Thai style. I had to heat my own food in a microwave. The owner treats the house like a museum; if you accidentally damage anything you’ll still have to pay.

“Loved it overall. Highly recommend this historic place”

The upstairs rooms are huge, each with two balconies, perfect for two couples if you’re okay sharing a bathroom. The location is great, and the staff were very helpful with tour info and drivers. The bathroom is a bit cramped but still manageable, and the shower curtain might need replacing.

“Excellent Location and informative host.”

The location is superb. Close to the Clock Tower, Walking Street and bars. The hosts are friendly and informative. The house is one of four in Chiang Rai over 100 years old and belonged to a Governor of the province whose wife was a Thai Princess ( I think). I was able to communicate with our host through WhatsApp. I couldn’t regulate the shower properly. My wife is pescatarian and has not eaten meat for 40 years. On the first morning we had a rice porridge- despite the host’s best efforts at removing the pork (that was in mine) there was a piece in hers - clearly the same dish with the meat fished out. Not ideal

“Lovely house, we wish we had stayed longer”

The owner personally welcomed us, and she and her staff stayed very attentive throughout our stay.
