The hotel’s location in a small town was nice, the scenery was scenic and a gorge was just minutes away, breakfast was great, the tatami was great, and I slept well, but the shower system made it hard to get the right mix.

The meals, onsen, and location were great, and the hotel was quaint, but the room lighting could be brighter.

The hotel looked like a love hotel or a Japanese Neuschwanstein, a bit dated, the room was large with a river view, the beds were too hard, the onsen area was mediocre, it was a pity there was no outdoor onsen/rotenburo, dinner and breakfast were just okay, the hotel sits right by a waterfall, we were there in May and it’s just around the corner from Shiba Zakura Park Takinoue, a great park with phlox blooms, and it’s a bit dated.

The large bath and the eucalyptus sauna were good, and the staff were friendly.

It’s an old hotel but the upkeep is decent, the staff are friendly, and the half‑board meals are thoughtfully prepared, offering good value for money. The downside was that the last few dishes at dinner felt a bit haphazard.
