The ambience was good, but when I booked, the hotel advertised a minibar and ironing facilities, yet the room had none.

The bar would be better placed elsewhere than in the dining room. The dining room itself is uncomfortable, with loud music and hard materials that make it very noisy and you can hear every fork clatter. Adding carpet, curtains, and acoustic panels on the ceiling would improve things a lot.
