“Pleasant enough.”

Daan and Nadine are good hosts and made us feel very welcome. Daan is very knowledgeable as a guide. Self‑driving is permitted, which we really appreciated. The accommodation was very clean, and the evening fire was lit early, which was very welcome. We had the whole camp to ourselves, which was pleasant for us. The accommodation is tired and needs an upgrade. We felt the staff were doing their best under the circumstances, but it seems the owners are reluctant to invest in the reserve and accommodation. The large electric gate into the camp was non‑functional and dangerous—it fell off the rails because there is no adequate stop to prevent it from moving off the rails, an injury waiting to happen. The pool pump is in a bad state of repair and sounds as though a bearing is about to seize up. Some folks may appreciate the dogs on the property; we’re not fans of being barked at each time we approach our vehicle or return from a drive.

We stayed in the bush, saw game birds, and spent time on the Limpopo River—an absolutely awesome game lodge. The only issue was the part of coming home.

“Great Value for birders...and does all the essentials (air con; hot water; electricity) 100%”

We booked the family cabin in early December 2025, and as a couple in our mid‑60s from the USA it was perfect: plenty of space, a large kitchen, and big glass doors/windows with a nice view. The staff were amazing; we brought them different types of meat and they did a braai for us each evening (free) and even grilled our sweet potatoes. Both cooks, Nadine and Mavis, were kind, helpful, and always ready to assist. When we had a flat tire on our own self‑drive (which we changed ourselves), the staff called to town, secured a good spare, and made sure it was properly stowed under the car. The operation is very well run. Each stay includes a free game drive; we did two night drives and one morning drive with Dan, the dad of the family and senior caretaker, who has been there for 17 years after retiring as a lawyer in Pretoria. He knows the property inside out and where to find birds, especially Pel's Fishing Owl— we found two pairs and a lone individual. We also spotted Boulder Chats, which we had seen in Botswana. Dan was a good guide, and his knowledge complemented ours as birders. The only drawback was that we are bird photographers and needed the light at a specific angle (at our backs) with unobstructed views; Dan was at best so‑so in positioning us for shots of perched owls and other birds.

After the entrance gate there are far too few signposts toward the reception, and the ride takes 15 minutes. The location is very remote, so you have to drive a long way to shop—especially for a self‑catering lodge. The reception offered no chance to buy any small groceries. The game drives were disappointing; Daan said nothing about the animals or nature and just drove us around.
