“Beautiful setting, but room for improvement”
The hotel sits in a gorgeous setting with impeccably maintained grounds and beautiful scenery. We found plenty of activities and a variety of walks and hikes nearby, which really stood out during our visit. The spa was lovely and provided a genuinely relaxing atmosphere. Our room matched the online photos, especially the bathroom that featured a separate bath and shower, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location, the grounds, the surrounding scenery, and the range of activities were probably the strongest aspects of our stay. However, there were maintenance and cleanliness problems that diminished the overall experience. The faux leather on the headboard was noticeably peeling, dust gathered in a cobweb-like pattern around parts of the ceiling, and paint was scabbing in some corners. Staff interactions were inconsistent; some were very friendly and helpful, while at other times I felt like I was bothering them with my requests. The spa was still nice, but my masseuse seemed to have a cold and kept blowing her nose during my session, even while I was lying down for a facial, which was not particularly soothing. Breakfast was acceptable, and the extra charges for certain items were clearly explained, but the value didn’t feel justified. We also found that tea and coffee often needed to be requested again after the initial order, not just at our table but at several tables around us. When we ordered room service, the tray was left outside our room for about 24 hours after we finished. All of these relatively minor issues combined made the experience feel somewhat below the standard we had expected.

The staff were fantastic, especially Adam at reception. The bathroom floor tiles had large cracks, more than five, which should have been fixed or replaced before the rooms were let out given the price.
The hotel is comfortable and in a lovely location. Breakfast service was poor; the whole experience was let down by very slow or non‑existent hot food service. We stayed an extra night. On the third morning nobody came to our table to ask if we wanted a cooked breakfast even though the rate included a hot course, so we had to make do with the continental buffet.
