The view was gorgeous, the AC always kept the room cool, and the room itself was a nice size with a very comfortable bed. The staff didn’t speak any English, which made communication tough. The cold shower was a let‑down, the hotel sits far from the city centre and trekking departures, and there were hardly any restaurants nearby. Soundproofing was basically nonexistent, even though we didn’t hear traffic because the road was distant.

Sawah Bungalow sits on the edge of Bukit Lawang, a good spot to stay before and after jungle trekking. The view from the room is lovely, it’s quiet, and it’s a bit off from restaurants and the supermarket—about a 10‑minute walk. Talking with the hosts was sometimes hard because they don’t speak English, but they still tried to help us lovingly. When the air‑con broke, they promptly offered a new room. The bungalow is huge, clean, and the bed is very comfortable, with everything you need. We’d definitely recommend Sawah. The shower water is a bit cold, and it’s a little out of town.

The place is beautifully set up. The room is spotless, spacious, and has large windows with a stunning balcony view. The hosts are very friendly and helpful—just ask anything and they’ll assist. I took a bicycle tour with Dani, who shared loads of info about nature and local crafts. I’d do that tour again and again!

The calm, the roomy bedroom, and the big balcony overlooking the rice fields were great. Breakfast featured huge banana pancakes! The accommodation accepts guests even if you don’t join their trek, which is pretty uncommon. The sink is tiny, and during a heavy rain night, water leaked in through the roof—needs renovation work. It’s a bit far from town, but you can walk there.

The view is incredible, and the balcony is probably the highlight of the place. The host was the sweetest guy and cooked the tastiest breakfast. The bed was very comfy and the room was large. There’s no hot water, but that’s typical here—even fancy hotels promise hot water that turns out lukewarm. The only downside is the distance from town; to reach the tourist area or village you need a tuk‑tuk or a 30‑minute walk, though that also means it’s very quiet and peaceful, with a lovely cat for company.
