We did enjoy a few things: the breakfast tasted really good, the bed was comfortable for a good night’s sleep, and the parking was convenient. However, we paid £180 for two nights and still faced many problems. There was no Wi‑Fi, so the smart TV’s apps were unusable and only about five channels worked. Bedside sockets were missing, which is a real inconvenience. The room was extremely dusty, especially around the bedside tables, and we found hairs in the bed that weren’t ours, which is unacceptable after a cleaning. The fridge was louder than the extractor fan, so we unplugged it overnight. The bathroom had issues too: the shower doors didn’t close properly, so the floor got soaked, and the toilet seat was barely attached, with only one hinge working, something that should have been fixed before guests arrived.

The food was very good, and the place was popular enough that dinner spots were fully booked on Sunday because of a live band. The staff were great, and the hot breakfast was freshly prepared. The accommodation, however, clearly needed an update; I wouldn’t have paid more than we did. A fresh coat of paint, matching beds, and new carpet would help. There was a boiler in the room, but luckily a carbon monoxide monitor was present, otherwise I’d have been worried. The shower cubicle was tiny and not suitable for someone on the plumper side, despite having a decent‑sized shower tray. The light by the mirror was missing, so the central light made it hard to see clearly for makeup. The entrance door was ill‑fitting, causing drafts in winter. On arrival the bin was still full even though they said it was ready, and there were several spiders and cobwebs; we told staff and they fixed it quickly.

They let us lock our bicycles safely in the room.

Breakfast was great and the location was good. The room was warm and comfortable, but the washing facilities needed improvement: there were no hooks for towels or clothes, no handle on the outside of the bathroom door, and the plug was unchained and got stuck in the hole when used, which my husband had to repair. The door was wedged on the floor, half open. The toilet seat was loose and there was no toilet roll holder. Just a bit more maintenance attention would have been nice.
