The breakfast at the vegetarian restaurant was my favorite part, especially the variety of homemade, tasty fruit juices. Just keep in mind that insects and animals can appear in the outdoor bathroom; the outside itself didn’t bother me, as it’s part of the natural charm, but a few managed to slip inside through tiny cracks in the windows and doors, which is probably normal for a real Bali living style.

The accommodation was tucked away in a sort of secret garden, away from street noise. The décor and the peace of the space were lovely. The downside was a long stretch of stairs leading up to the lodging, and the on‑site café‑restaurant offered only very healthy options, missing something more conventional.

The stay at Joyously villas was absolutely fantastic. The villa itself felt serene, spacious, spotless, and the bed was wonderful. What truly surprised us was how kind and welcoming the staff were – they helped carry our bags up the stairs (you’ll have to climb a few steps to reach the villa, so keep that in mind if you’re not in great shape), were always ready to answer questions, offered tasty food and drinks, and provided extra towels, cleaning or anything else you might need. They even warned us about tourist stairs nearby and genuinely went out of their way to look after us. The property is beautifully maintained, so if you want a pleasant stay in Ubud, book here!

The gardens are gorgeous and the area feels safe and secure, with constant upkeep. The villa is very clean and comfortable, with a great bed and pillows. The staff are friendly and communicate excellently. The pool is well maintained. Breakfast offers tasty vegetarian or vegan options and drinks, though portions are small. It has a traditional Balinese vibe, with an outdoor toilet and shower – a more authentic, albeit pricier, alternative to a hotel or resort. However, be aware that there’s construction next door, so it can get a bit noisy with smoking during the day, and one villa is especially affected with less privacy. Steep steps are common around Ubud, but the staff will help with bags and can bring you breakfast.
