AltoCanto in Coimbra sits in the city centre, overlooking the Mondego River and offering panoramic views. A short walk brings guests to the historic University of Coimbra and Santa Clara a Velha Monastery. Family rooms feature private baths, balconies, parquet floors, bathrobes, and free toiletries. Complimentary Wi‑Fi, a terrace, dining area, and electric kettle enhance comfort. The property is praised for attentive service, hearty breakfast, and unbeatable location.

The property is a historic Portuguese building right in the UNESCO zone, right in the middle of everything, and Coimbra university is literally just a few feet away. My room offered a view of the river, and Ana, the hostess and manager, was always reachable on WhatsApp and made a fantastic breakfast for me. I left my luggage on the ground floor because the whole upper flat was mine, and the room actually came with a full suite—living room, balcony, all that. I would definitely come back to experience this historic accommodation again.

The place is very well situated, very clean, and the view is spectacular! The only downside is that there is no air conditioning.

The location is great, the view is superb, and the terrace is large! The breakfast is extra.

The historic old town of Coimbra and the university were the main draws for my visit, and with its character and prime location, Alto Canto hits both marks. A hearty breakfast gave me the energy for the day, and the helpful recommendations led me to spots I would not have discovered otherwise. Communication was excellent throughout, a bonus. For the environmentally conscious traveler, the recycling bins on site are a nice touch, though they’re hard to find in town. The mini‑bar in the room would be a great way to showcase Portugal’s wonderful food and drink. Thank you.
