“A great Hotel stay - spoiled !”
I am an aviation enthusiast, and the opportunity to have an overnight stay overlooking an airport, in such a unique location (an artificial Island) was too good to miss. It’s a modern hotel, great and plentiful parking, and the complimentary evening curry and hot drinks was a real plus. The rooms aren’t big, but they are big enough, and scrupulously clean. There was no Public Bath and that was a bit of a disappointment. On checking in I told the Receptionist that I was an aviation enthusiast and he allocated me a room on floor 6 (or 5) so that I could see the Airport. I asked if there was a viewing platform on the roof or elsewhere, but disappointingly the answer was no. On going to my room, exiting the lift I noticed that either end of the building had exterior stairwells for use as fire escapes. I wondered whether I’d be able to get a clearer photo of the Airport from there, as the room windows had very restricted opening. I tried the fire exit door and I was delighted to find it open. I quickly started taking photos. After about 15 seconds a Hotel cleaner came down the stairs behind me, and expressed surprise to see me. I showed the staff member I was a guest and was taking photos. However she indicated she had to phone the front desk (though I didn’t know what for) I continued back into the corridor with the cleaner when the front Desk clerk came up in the lift. It transpired that the exit doors were normally locked, (but could be barged open in an emergency) but on this occasion the cleaner had not locked the door when she’d gone to work on the stairwell. The Desk Clerk then gave me a good telling off like he was a Headmaster and I was a naughty schoolboy ! I had done absolutely nothing wrong, I tried an exit door that was open, and went to get a few photos. That I received a harsh telling off has left a nasty taste in my mouth, and it has very much coloured my view of the Toyoko Hotel Group. Perhaps the Desk Clerk needs some additional training on how to deal with Hotel Guests ? That incident spoiled my stay at the Airport Hotel
