Hotel Runavík

The room was a good size, comfortable, clean, and offered a great view over the harbour; it was a short walk from nice restaurants, a great floating sauna (Saunadypp), and a pleasant local walk around a lake. It felt a little like a ghost town when I arrived to an empty reception with my keys in an envelope on the desk and came down early to breakfast to find a room with breakfast already served but no staff or other guests around!

The breakfast and location were very good, but we booked a room for three people, arrived late, and discovered that only one bed for two people was in the room; no other rooms were available, so we all slept in that single bed. We reported this immediately in the morning and were told, “oh, you can still sleep there.” In the end, we only had to pay for two people, which was handled correctly, but it was still a practical issue. Whether the mistake was the hotel’s fault or ours isn’t clear, but it was inconvenient. Despite this, the hotel is still recommended for a layover.

The hotel is charming and has everything you need, situated in a prime spot for island hopping, and the staff were very friendly.

“Tranquil and convenient. We love it”

We love the hotel’s location with direct views of the port and sea. It’s our third visit and we keep coming back because the spot is so convenient. The area has a lively community and plenty to do, plus the shops offer a wide range of items and a new shopping centre adds extra convenience. A new swimming pool is nearby, though we didn’t have time to try it. The football stadium is close enough for anyone to play when NSI isn’t having a match, and the lake next to it provides tranquility and spectacular views that make us want to return. The hotel itself is basic but perfect for a stay outside the capital. Rooms are spacious with lovely views. The hotel’s small food menu is good, but there are many great restaurants within walking distance—Etika and Rist are our favorites. Breakfast is solid, and the French toast with carrot and cinnamon is addictive, another reason we keep coming back. The staff are nice and very helpful.

We had a disappointing experience: we booked a twin room but were given a double bed instead. The staff gave no explanation, and because the hotel was full they couldn’t move us. As a frequent traveler, this level of customer service is far below what I expect.
