“Don't look anywhere else - just stay at Jabal Rum Camp if you want to avoid an unpleasant experience”
Everyone heading to Wadi Rum should read this. Jabal Rum Camp (JRC) is one of the few camps that you can drive to with a rental car (standard insurance covers it). Most desert camps aren’t. The host will try to trick you by saying free parking is included, which makes you think you can park and drive to the camp. In reality, they’ll tell you to meet at the free parking lot in the village, then drive you to the camp for about JD20 per person, which they’ll waive if you join their tour. If you stay but don’t join, you’ll find that the JD20 is a one‑way fee and you’ll have to pay it again when you leave, unless you walk back. Declining their transport, they’ll warn you that your car might get stuck in the sand or that police will arrest you for driving in the desert (false). This setup keeps you tied to their tours for extra money. The “free transport” is bait. Another red flag is that their real address is never revealed, even after booking. JRC is different: the host is honest, and you can go with any tour operator. JRC is linked to Qusay, a tour operator; I went with him and his price was reasonable and he was honest. You can also eat at Disah. Other camps force you to eat their meals and overcharge.
