The pub was nice for dinner, but the room—one of four in a building called The Cottage near a car park—smelled damp, which was awful for me as an asthmatic even after opening all the windows; the small room was cozy with a nice bathroom and a coffee machine, but the persistent damp and the door slamming downstairs when people passed through the main door were big negatives.

The layout was quirky and the room was clean and nice, though a bit small; I loved the oldness of the property and the beautiful surroundings, but it was a bit off the beaten track and I had to drive to the nearest shops.

Breakfast was particularly great, and I enjoyed the complimentary gin in the room; I would have liked an iron, but there probably wasn’t room for an ironing board.

The location was good, and we knew it from a previous stay; the bed was comfy and the room was clean. The bar and restaurant were great. However, there was no fan in the room even though it was boiling hot, and we had to chase one down. The lady at reception was absolutely lovely and attentive, but the male manager made me feel like I was asking for the moon and was very dismissive.
