Where do I even start? This is one of those places I’ll smile about when I think of Sri Lanka. From the moment we were welcomed with smiles and ready to answer any question about Sigiriya, we were hooked. We’re a young couple, and we loved every minute of our stay. It’s not a luxury hotel: monkeys are everywhere, jumping onto the roof in the morning, peacocks, fireflies, butterflies – that’s why we loved it! It felt like we were in the middle of nature all the time. The pool was always cleaned of leaves when we wanted to use it. Breakfast was great, always with fresh juice and tea/coffee. We dined once and absolutely loved it (the vanilla ice cream is amazing!!!). Most of all, we appreciated the hospitality. Even with a language barrier, we felt very well taken care of. We didn’t get lucky enough to see the tusker elephant that usually roams around at night, though we swear we heard him once at 2 am! Nothing negative.

A Magical Stay with a Massive Heart: Bissa Villa & The Train Hut. If you’re after an unforgettable stay that feeds both soul and taste buds, Bissa Villa is the place to be. From the moment you step onto the property, the incredible warmth of the wonderful couple who run it is felt; they truly have hearts of gold and are profoundly generous. What makes Bissa Villa special is its mission: the owners actively give locals from the surrounding community a chance at a better life. The staff receive on‑site English training, and communicating in English is mandatory among the team to help them build skills and confidence. Supporting a business that empowers its people makes your holiday feel truly meaningful. Nearby good places include Dambulla, Ritigala‑forest, Polonnuruwa; we had our own tuk‑tuk for day trips. The grounds are a gorgeous, lush garden filled with vibrant fruit trees, colorful butterflies by day, and magical fireflies at night. Because of all the fresh fruit, you’ll see curious monkeys playing in the trees, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a hungry elephant wandering near the property! The pool is wonderfully refreshing, perfect for cooling off after a day of exploring. The rooms are spotlessly clean cottages with reliable hot‑water showers. Dining at ‘The Train Hut’ means you don’t even need to leave the property for an incredible meal; their on‑site restaurant serves absolutely delicious food, with every dish prepared with love, freshness, and authentic flavor—dining here was a daily highlight of our stay! A small tip for future guests: the surrounding village is quite poor, and the owners do everything they can to support local families, so please bring along some school supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks) in your luggage. The only downside was that we had to leave.

The family‑friendly track and facilities are great, but it’s close to the train.

The property is perfect for relaxation, with a well‑maintained pool and spacious rooms. The owners and staff are super friendly, help with all concerns, and share a lot about the area. The food at the restaurant—both breakfast and dinner—is very tasty and highly recommended. We felt very comfortable here.
