After arriving by ferry from Grimsey Island, we checked into a place that felt like a youth hostel. My wife and I logged onto Netflix on a smart TV in the common area, and she grabbed a glass of white wine at the bar/check‑in spot. We caught the morning bus at the gas station next to the hotel, so the location was convenient.

I enjoy Scandi‑style breakfasts; no UK‑style fry‑ups meant I was happier than my companions. The hotel falls far below UK standards and feels more like a hostel than a hotel; having stayed there several times before, I knew exactly what to expect. There were no evening meals.

The room was changed at the last moment, it was expensive, there was no breakfast, and the room was small.

The room was spacious, and the bathroom and kitchen were quite clean. It’s a 5‑minute drive to the port to catch the ferry to Grimsey. Everything in Iceland is pricey, but it suited our trip well.
