We felt completely at ease at Gasthof Seidl, and we were surprised by how much we appreciated the food – it was outstanding in every way. The place’s location was perfect for us because we did the Bear Trail, and the hosts were spot on in supporting our hikes.

The breakfast was excellent, especially the bread selection, the restaurant food was truly superb, beautifully presented and delicious, the rooms were spacious with plenty of wood, somewhat modern, and the mattresses were good; parking is directly in front of the house, and apart from a few cars on the street at night, the area is very quiet. The kitchen isn’t separated from the restaurant by a door, so the kitchen smell spreads quite strongly throughout the restaurant and sometimes into the stairwell; better ventilation in the kitchen would help.

We got a family room that was far more spacious than a standard room for the same price; it was spotless, nicely decorated, and the bathroom was modern and flawless. The restaurant felt cozy, the food was wonderful, and the innkeepers were extremely kind and helpful, making our conversation flow easily. I can’t think of any downside.

I escaped the heat of the east and headed into the center of Waldviertel, where the nights were noticeably cooler and more peaceful for sleeping. The place offered quiet, and there were plenty of hiking trails in the forest, a bathing lake, and a small camp area to cool off. Even a thunderstorm rolled through. We could visit castles, and the hosts were very friendly while the food was exceptionally good—everything fit together nicely.
