“Great value for money and friendly staff”
Great location for my stay. The room could do with a lick of paint.

When I arrived, the place had a pleasant vibe, and Emma—if that’s her name—at the bar was fantastic. Kate is new but clearly passionate about improving things, so despite some rough edges and a tired feel, the hotel still radiated warmth. I’d definitely return for work trips and am curious to see how Kate evolves the property. On the downside, the hotel looked a bit worn and some spots felt dirty, though the basics stayed clean. A strong cannabis scent lingered from other guests, even though no smoking occurred on site. The rooms lack tea or coffee facilities; you have to go to the bar, which only opens at 8 am, so if you need a brew right after waking up you’re out of luck. A train outside the window is very loud, and the food is basic with better options nearby.

I left as soon as the sun rose because a stranger in the hallway was naked and shouting gibberish early in the morning, forcing my kids to get up and leave. The place felt like an HMO—loud, rude, dirty—and the staff were rude. There were no kettles or working TVs in the rooms, so I couldn’t sleep at all, keeping the doors locked. The overall experience was horrible and not recommended.

Kate at reception turned into a cook and served an excellent breakfast, and the hotel feels truly family‑run where guest hospitality matters. That said, the location is far from Birmingham—at least a 30‑minute bus ride, though the stop is right in front of the hotel—and there’s no air‑conditioning during a heatwave, which is fine for one night. The worst part was that even when asked, they didn’t have a hair‑dryer available.
