This historic hotel, built on 13th-century Bishop's Palace foundations, features traditional cuisine, free on-site parking, and free Wi-Fi in its bedrooms. It's a short walk from shops and St Mary's Church, with the M50 motorway and Forest of Dean nearby.

The old‑world charm of the hotel was lovely, the staff were helpful, friendly and polite, the crisp white bedding was fabulous, and the food tasted good; the only downside was that there was no lift for my 89‑year‑old mum, though she wanted a river view, which is probably listed and not installable.

The staff were excellent, very friendly and clearly enjoyed their jobs, the room was spotless with a lovely view, and the evening meal had good quality and value, with no issues.
