I loved the hotel’s amenities—especially the onsen and rooftop bar with daily welcome drinks—but the room felt a bit cramped; the staff’s friendliness and the facilities far outweighed the small size.

The onsen was great and the room was clean, but the rooms are very small with little space for luggage, the bathroom and shower feel outdated, and the tiny safe can’t hold much—no room for an iPad, for example. Breakfast seemed messy; you could buy breakfast but eat in your room, so I’d have preferred a local breakfast area for a calm meal. The drinks that were supposed to be free each day weren’t good; the free options like ginger beer and cola were better.

It was my first stay at the hotel and I’ll be back. The hotel is perfect for exploring Kyoto and relaxing, with a superb spa that changes daily and great breakfast. The rooftop bar offers a foot bath, and each room provides traditional clothing that can be worn in the hotel. Everything was flawless. No complaints!

The hotel is particularly beautiful and the staff are exceptionally friendly.
