“A great resort option while hiking the kumano kodo”
The resort sits in a tiny town on the Kumano Kodo, so having a place that includes breakfast and dinner was exactly what my traveling group needed. Because the town offers few options, demand and prices rise—just the way they are. The front desk spoke English and everything matched the pictures and website for the expected services. They gave scheduled meal times and supplied all the necessary bath amenities, plus we could use the river across the street, which has an active hot spring beneath it—quite unique. The bus stop is right outside the hotel entrance, and they also run a daily 9 am shuttle to the downtown shrine for viewing. Overall, it was exactly what I had imagined when I signed up. They accept international credit cards without issue, and most of the town buses do as well; IC cards worked on all of them, but it’s wise to have cash as a backup just in case. The only downside was that the futons in my Japanese‑styled room were thin, so we basically slept on the floor and had to use various pillows around the room to make it bearable. On the second night we were able to get an extra futon for each of us, which at least made it marginally better. I had better beds at all other places I stayed during the journey. An easy upgrade would be worthwhile. The facility is a bit aged, but clean enough and served our needs.
