“Overall, my stay at Empire Valley Hotel was disappointing due to poor communication, security issues”
I was surprised when the reception staff seemed unaware of my booking. At first, the receptionist claimed the hotel was fully booked, then he called his manager and was told there were two available rooms that had already been promised to other guests. He asked me to cancel my reservation before he could assign a room, which was confusing. Even after explaining we were exhausted from a long journey and needed a room urgently because we were heading to a T20 cricket match in Pallekele, he insisted on the cancellation. After some back‑and‑forth, he finally agreed to give us room 23, but only after taking my ID card and handing me a key card. He escorted us to the room and left. The room did not match the description or photos: it was unclean, had an unpleasant odor, and the air conditioning was not working properly. I couldn’t find the AC remote. After a quick shower, we discovered the digital door lock was faulty. When we returned to reception, the staff member came to our room, and to our dismay, the door could be opened without the key card, raising serious security concerns. Despite the receptionist’s assurances that CCTV cameras were in place and that he would be available until midnight, we didn’t feel safe. We decided to take our valuables with us and rushed to the cricket match. After returning after 1 AM, we found our room door wide open. Thankfully, nothing was missing, but the situation left us very uneasy. The receptionist was not present at that time, and we had to use chairs to block the door while we slept due to security worries. Overall, the experience at Empire Valley Hotel was far from satisfactory. The lack of security, cleanliness, and proper communication was very disappointing. I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience.
