The garden is beautiful and feels like you’re staying in the past. The entire staff was friendly, and the traditional breakfast was wonderful. We knew we were getting the traditional futons but didn’t really know what to expect. Not recommended for those that have trouble sleeping.

From the moment we arrived until the time we picked up the bags, it was a great experience! The place is wonderful and the rooms are precious! The world you create once you get in makes you forget you’re in the middle of a city! The traditional Japanese breakfast and the hospitality of our hosts make staying there one of the best things we did on our trip. Very grateful.

I loved the location and the overall experience at the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly. My highlight was the Tea Ceremony, an optional extra for ¥3,000 that is worth the money. The host of the tea ceremony and Ryokan tour was polite, knowledgeable, patient, and spoke flawless English. I would recommend it to anyone. My room was amazing and the breakfast was exceptional. The only thing I wish I’d known earlier was that the front door locks at 11 pm and you have to buzz for it to open afterward. I understand this is normal for a Ryokan, and the staff were incredibly accommodating if I stayed out past that time. It doesn’t affect my overall rating or enjoyment of the stay – I would still recommend staying here to anyone visiting Kyoto.

The staff were incredibly welcoming and every breakfast tasted fantastic! We felt fully immersed in traditional Japanese culture, and the futons turned out to be very comfortable. The only downside was the sheer number of mosquitoes in the room—summer and plenty of water sources around the property made it hard to get rid of them and the bites were annoying.
